Hulu will Require Cable Subscription Authentication?
Hulu Requires Cable Subscription Authentication?
There are posts buzzing around the internet today about Hulu requiring cable subscription authentication. What does this mean? It appears that Hulu, owned by News Corp, is planning on requiring its “Free Service” users to prove that they have an active cable/satellite subscription. Obviously this moves will make the trend of “cord cutting”, much more difficult. A quick view of News Corp Subsidiaries (scroll down for a list), indicates that this move by Hulu stands to protect several of Fox New’s Media Content.
Suffice to say there are several other avenues and service available to “cord cutters”: Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, or for the more tech savvy creating a media content system using Ceton’s DVR system the Ceton Q.
The transition from “Free Service” to “Authenticated Free Service” is humored to take a few years. I guess we’ll need to see how the market responds to this news and whether or not Hulu will proceed with its plans to change its “Free Service”.
More information on the transition can be found at the New York Post.
